About

Julia Maria Koch is a dancer and choreographer and lives and works in Berlin.

After many choreographic collaborations, an assistance with Ridge Theater / NYC and playing venues like the SAT Theater / Barcelona and the Baryshnikov Arts Center / NYC with her choreographies, in 2015 she founded her own project-based ensemble with international dancers and artists in Berlin.


Her work has been invited to numerous international festivals such as the Sarajevo Winter Festival, Alexandria Festival of Contemporary Theater/Egypt, Gdanski Festiwal Tanca 2017/Poland , Danza Almada Festival/Portugal, Agitart Festival /Spain etc.

She also participated in many renowned choreographic competitions such as the Stuttgart Solo Dance Theater Festival, Certamen Coreografico de Madrid, twice in Certamen Coreografico Burgos-New York, Festival 10 Sentidos / Valencia, Gdansk Solo Dance Festival, SoloDuo Barnes Crossing/ Cologne and others


For her work she received several awards, such as the special prize at the Arte Laguna Prize / Venice, the second prize at Certamen Coreografico de Sabadell and the "Special Mention" at the Inshadow Festival in Lisboa. She reached being a finalist at the Solo dance contest in Gdansk and the Screengrab Media Art Prize in Australia with a following exhibition and won an artistic residence at Certamen Coreografico de Madrid.


Furthermore, the ensemble was invited for residencies in places such as the Choreographic Center in Heidelberg and Oficina Caos / Torino.


In 2016, the ensemble toured extensively in Spain, after being nominated by the well-known spanish festival network RedAcieloabierto as one of the touring companies.
 

In the season 2017/18 she was commissioned to create one part of the triple bill evening HEIMAT for Deutsche Tanzkompanie/ Neustrelitz.
